A healthy smile for life!

Orthodontics offers a dual benefit: aesthetic and functional. Correcting misalignment, a lack of space for teeth or too much spacing helps limit wear on certain teeth over the long term, and makes brushing easier. And a healthy, harmonious smile gives you self-confidence.

At our Adent dental clinics, we offer tailor-made orthodontic treatment for adults and children.

Personalized support helps you regain a healthy, aesthetic smile. Our orthodontists use the latest technologies and offer a range of orthodontic treatments depending on the initial situation and the desired result. Discreet treatments (e.g. the orthodontic method with Invisalign® clear aligners) are available for adults and young adults. You’ll also find the classic braces with braces, an effective, well-known treatment.

What techniques are available for aligning my teeth?
1. Vestibular rings

Our orthodontists offer you fixed braces (visible and invisible) or removable braces (visible and invisible). Traditional braces are the most popular treatment. They are individually bonded to each tooth, and a wire connects each tooth to the other. Brackets, today’s most popular braces, are also available in tooth-colored ceramic. Gentle tension is applied at regular intervals, allowing the teeth to move smoothly.

2. Transparent gutters

Orthodontic treatment without braces is also possible with Invisalign®! This technique uses a series of transparent, removable aligners to align your teeth without wires or visible braces. You wear each set of aligners for around 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink and clean your teeth. As you replace each clear aligner with the next in the series, your teeth move little by little, week by week, until they reach their final position.

3. Lingual bands (on inner surfaces)

Lingual braces are braces positioned behind the teeth and in front of the tongue (hence the name “lingual”). Well-concealed, these rings are totally invisible from the outside. The brackets are connected by a metal arch that exerts pressure on the teeth, gently moving them until the desired alignment is achieved.
They can be made in a variety of materials and shapes, depending on the brand or model used by the orthodontist.

Orthodontics for children

Orthodontic treatment, aimed at optimal alignment for harmonious facial aesthetics, can be undertaken at virtually any age. Yet most parents want their children to be taken care of early. At Adent, we recommend the first orthodontic check-up around the age of 6, or earlier if the cooperation of young patients permits. Early interception of malocclusions during growth is essential, as it enables results to be achieved that can no longer be achieved once definitive growth is complete. The earlier the duration of treatment, the easier it is to make potential corrections and adapt appliances to adolescence.

Price of 1st consultation: from CHF 119.00

To determine which type of orthodontic treatment is best for your child, we recommend that you consult an orthodontic specialist in Switzerland. He/she will give you all the information you need about the process and the launch of a treatment, and will answer any questions you may have. Various types of treatment are available, including Invisalign® aligners or more traditional braces bonded to the surface of the teeth. Our orthodontists can also advise you on the possibility of financial participation by external bodies (e.g. social insurance, compulsory insurance or disability insurance).

Orthodontics for adults

Thanks to the emergence of new technologies, orthodontics for the adult patient is booming. Innovative orthodontic methods, such as adult braces with clear ceramic bands for aesthetic alignment, lingual orthodontics (brackets fixed behind the teeth) or thermoformed clear aligners (Invisalign® system), have reduced treatment times and optimized aesthetics. These appliances, recommended by dentists for their efficiency and discretion, make orthodontic treatment much more discreet – even invisible.

Beyond simply aligning teeth aesthetically, orthodontics can modify situations that have been disturbing or even uncomfortable for many years.

FAQ – Orthodontics for children and adults

Why opt for orthodontics?

While orthodontics is often first thought of for aesthetic reasons, the benefits of orthodontic treatment are far more numerous. Poorly positioned teeth and jaws can cause functional problems and can be difficult to clean. Poor teeth cleaning leads to plaque build-up on the teeth, and contributes to the development of cavities and gum disease (e.g. receding gums). Due to the pain involved, chewing may be impaired and become less efficient, impacting your diet and digestion. Dental malposition can also cause excessive tooth wear, as well as pain in the jaw, head, neck and facial muscles.

What are the advantages of orthodontics?

While the advantages of orthodontic treatment with braces or Invisalign® clear aligners (for children or adults, for example) are manifold, we’ve listed the most common here:

  1. Restores an optimal occlusion: good contact between upper and lower teeth promotes good chewing.
  2. Prevents tooth wear: when alignment is optimal, tooth wear is minimized. Your tooth enamel and the shape of your teeth are preserved.
  3. Improved oral health: abnormal positioning of your teeth or jaw can lead to gum pain and inflammation. Teeth that are harmoniously aligned provide better access for cleaning.
  4. Restores a harmonious appearance: optimal alignment brings self-confidence. Restore your radiant smile and boost your self-confidence.

How much does orthodontic treatment cost?

The cost of orthodontic treatment can only be determined after a thorough dental check-up with your orthodontist. The check-up is carried out at the dental clinic, in the presence of the specialist. This gives the orthodontist an overview of your current oral condition, and X-rays can be used to perform a complete check-up. You discuss the various treatment options and define the desired result together. The price of orthodontic treatment is therefore determined only after an examination by one of our orthodontic experts. Several factors need to be taken into account:

  • the technique used
  • duration of treatment
  • present malpositions
  • the desired end result also influences treatment costs

These aspects should be discussed with our orthodontists.

How can I change orthodontists in Switzerland during my treatment?

Changing orthodontist during treatment in Switzerland is entirely possible, and can be motivated by a variety of reasons, such as relocation, dissatisfaction with current treatment, communication problems with the current practitioner, or a preference for a different type of braces.

To change orthodontists, there are several important steps to follow:

  1. Inform your current orthodontist of your decision. He or she is responsible for the maintenance of your orthodontic appliances and the monitoring of your oral health, and will pass on your file and all relevant information to the new practitioner.
  2. Make an appointment for an initial consultation with your new orthodontist. This appointment will enable the new specialist to assess your oral health and understand the complexity of your case. It’s also essential that you bring along all documents relating to your current treatment, such as X-rays or dental impressions.
  3. Ensure transparent communication with the new orthodontist. Explain your expectations and the reasons why you have decided to change practitioners. It’s important that the new orthodontist understands your needs and preferences to continue treatment effectively.

Is orthodontics reimbursed in Switzerland?

In Switzerland, orthodontic treatment is not covered by basic health insurance (LAMal), which reimburses dental care only if it is required as a result of serious illness or accident. To obtain reimbursement for orthodontic expenses, it is essential to take out supplementary dental insurance.

Here are some key points about the reimbursement of orthodontic treatment by supplementary insurance companies in Switzerland:

  • Contracts specify the percentage of coverage, which can vary from 50% to 90%, and the remaining amount is paid by the patient.
  • Insurance companies may specify a maximum age for coverage, often between 18 and 25, after which they no longer cover orthodontics.
  • There may be an annual or total cap on care reimbursement, which limits the amount the insurance will pay in a year or over the entire course of treatment.

On average, supplementary insurances offer 75% reimbursement, with annual ceilings generally varying between CHF 1,000 and CHF 15,000. We recommend that you take out insurance with a maximum coverage of at least CHF 5,000 to ensure that you are properly insured.

For children, reimbursement details may vary, and it is advisable to compare the benefits of different insurance companies. In general, you’ll still have to pay part of the costs, even with insurance coverage.
