Orthodontic treatment

Our orthodontic dentists offer orthodontic treatment for children. Orthodontic treatment can be started at any age, but most parents want their children to start early. Depending on the type of treatment required, orthodontists can perform an initial interception phase as early as age 4. A variety of orthodontic treatments are available at Adent Dental Clinics, to suit every oral situation. To find out more, visit our page dedicated to orthodontics for children!

In addition to this dental care, our qualified dental hygienists use educational methods to explain how to keep teeth and gums healthy. Our dental prevention specialists help them acquire the right reflexes right from the first teeth.

No matter how small, every tooth needs to be cleaned every day. As soon as food is ingested, a biofilm forms on the surface of tooth enamel. This biofilm evolves if it is not regularly cleaned. This evolution produces soft, white deposits on the surface of the teeth, known as plaque. Among other things, dental plaque is made up of bacteria. Bacteria can cause tooth decay if not regularly cleaned. Plaque can also develop into tartar, a hard, white deposit that cannot be removed with a toothbrush.

Even if this is a rare occurrence, the impact of damage to a baby tooth can have repercussions on an adult tooth. In fact, the germs of adult teeth forming under the gums are delicate. They could be damaged if a baby tooth becomes infected or displaced.

Today, there’s a wide range of products to help clean children’s teeth. You can easily buy electric toothbrushes, dental floss on animal-shaped holders, colored toothbrushes for children, etc. These tools will help you improve your child’s oral hygiene. Ask our dental hygienists for advice.

My child is afraid of the dentist. What can I do?

For children who are phobic or anxious about going to the dentist, we have solutions! Our dentists offer treatment with nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or hypnosis, both of which are safe and easy to apply to children. Find out more here.

How can I prevent oral problems in my child?
1. Pass on good habits to your children!

Brushing is recommended 3x/day: brush your teeth after every meal and avoid your children snacking on sugary foods all the time, as this can cause cavities and pain.

2. Brush your children’s teeth as soon as they start teething.

It can be a daunting task, but all teeth, no matter how small, need to be cleaned every day. From the 1st teeth to around age 3, apply toothpaste the size of a grain of rice; then increase to the size of a pea.

3. Candy, yes! But Sympadent®!

Choose Sympadent® sweets: they’ve been tested and approved. These sweets are gentle on children’s and adults’ teeth. You can buy them in any shop in Switzerland. Locate the tooth logo under the umbrella.

4. Do you enjoy sharing with your child? Yes, but …

Avoid putting spoons or lolettes in your mouth before giving them to your baby: the bacteria that cause cavities can be transmitted.

5. Electric toothbrushes: an extra help for optimal cleaning.

Electric toothbrushes are a great way to help your child. This makes brushing easier and encourages them. Our dental hygienists will be happy to advise you.

6. Use age-appropriate fluoride toothpaste.

Fluoride protects teeth against decay. You’ll easily find toothpastes for under 6s, 6-12s and adults. Change the taste of toothpaste regularly: children like variety.
